SLOW...

It's a slow week shooting-wise. This weekend I am going to test the Mamiya with a digital back for the first time. So next week there will be some new (and hopefully interessting) shots on a more regular basis. Actually I am planning some changes as soon we're getting to shot 365...

347: DREAM VISION LIFE RERUN...

Dream Vision Life Project ...

Up to now five episodes of the Dream Vision Life Project are finished. If you haven't seen them yet, I will post in the next days all the episodes or just go to ISMONO.com/DVL

I got a lot of positive comments and I got some really good inspiring insights from all the people i've interviewed.

But I would love to hear what you think of the project or even about an episode in particular. Do you maybe know someone who you think should be interviewed for this project? Feel free to write a comment or drop me a line via mail.

346: WHEN REALITY STRIKES...

As a kid I did have all kinds of dreams and expectations of my future life. As a matter of fact I still have a lot of dreams. Although you already guessed that if you're following my Dream Vision Life Project.

So what was a point where reality did actually strike me?

Well, one of the things I always imagined to be awesome was working in different cities or even better countries. Traveling, staying in nice hotels even using different kind of money i thought to be cool.

Years later I am starting to get jobs in different cities or countries. I do love working with different people, and having to speak a different language is a blast. So nothing wrong yet, but what I never thought about: You have to get there.

When you're on vacation it is somehow kind of different to be sitting in a plane, never the less it sucks. Planes suck, trains suck and walking with a couple of bags suck. Ok the last thing could be eliminated by taking a cab, but in my hometown I try to save as much money as possible, since I am probably needing to take a cab in the other city. Other than that you need to worry about a new travel bag. Sounds trivial, but I only have a backpack (daypack) or something like a big traveling bag - nothing in between for just three to five days. Therefore you need to lug around a huge bag with almost nothing in it.

Besides traveling: Staying in a hotel is cool, but as soon as boredom strikes and all your friends are in a different country, it certainly does loose it's appeal. Also I get the feeling, that the older I get the harder it is to get used to a new bed. The first night I always sleep like non at all.

Bottom line: I do like working with different people, in a different city or country, but it isn't as fancy as I imagined it.

So anyone in the same boat as me? Hate planes? Dislike business traveling? Or when did you realize the reality didn't meet expectations?

343: WHEN YOU REALIZE 123456 ISN'T THE BEST PASSCODE...

I had to edit a commercial in Brussel. Despite the fact that I didn't see a lot of the city, I think it is quite a nice city. The area where I stayed and worked actually felt upper middle class and rather safe.

The city was unfortunately quite packed and therefore all the hotels were booked out. So the production company organized an apartment not too far away. The apartment was actually quite nice apart from the very bright red interior, until the house lady gave me the key to the maindoor and told me that the roomdoor uses a six number passcode.

Yes, with the most secure number in the world: 1 2 3 4 5 6...
Business area, all seemed safe and everyone was quite nice. I guess I just trust 123456.

10 pm and suddenly two guys stand in my room. Lucky me they weren't muggers, but rather seemed to have an apartment with just the same passcode.

On the second thought, they did make a rather strange couple: actually it was a young guy around 20 and another mid 40 guy in a business suite in a room with just a kingsize bed. That puts the bright red interior and the big mirrors into a complete different light.

I did not worry about 123456 that night anymore...
